Hot on the heels of Acer subsidary Packard Bell’s Cedar Trail netbook offering, Acer itself has released the Aspire One D270. The Cedar Trail launch was postponed, reportedly due to driver issues, and as a result the Cedar Trail chips only support DirectX 9 – not DX10.1 as originally claimed by Intel. This shouldn’t be a big deal, as Cedar Trail’s GMA 3600 graphics lacks the muscle to handle DX10 games anyway. Asus A8Jr Battery

The new D270 looks much like older Aspire One netbooks – only the specs have been upgraded. Acer uses the new Intel Atom N2600 processor at 1600 MHz. The Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3600 graphics card is integrated on the processor die. As with the Intel GMA 500, it is based on a core licensed from PowerVR (SGX 545). Asus A8Js Battery

The 10.1 incher sports a non-glare screen with a maximum resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It unfortunately has no USB 3.0 support – a standard feature on modern machines – but it does feature the latest Bluetooth 4.0. Case

The case hasn’t changed compared with the Acer Aspire One 522. It’s available in blue, red, green and black. The design on the display lid reminds us of the ripple created when a drop falls into water. It’s fairly sturdy, only bending under high pressure. However, there are some sharp edges around the ethernet jack to be wary of. Asus A8Le Battery

The fairly wide open angle of approximately 150 degrees is noteworthy. We noticed a slight teetering after adjusting the display hinges. The netbook’s bottom gives pretty limited access to the innards – only the battery can be easily removed. Like the Aspire One 522, the keyboard has to be taken off to get deeper inside. The D270 includes a bog standard 10/100 Realtek PCIe ethernet controller and Broadcom 802.11n wifi module. However, a real highlight is the cutting edge Bluetooth 4.0. The D270’s keyboard exploits the entire width of the netbook. As with previous models, it has a rather short key drop requiring moderate pressure. The arrow keys are tightly packed and could have been bigger, but overall the D270 is comfortable to type on. Asus A8Sr Battery

Acer still relies on the Synaptics touchpad (V7.2). The touchpad is separated from the wrist rest with a slight indent. Navigation is trouble-free; even multi-touch gestures are detected properly. Compared with the Acer Aspire One D522, the corresponding click bar no longer has a roughened surface but the pressure point is still crisp. Asus A8Tc Battery

The Acer Aspire One D270 is equipped with a 10.1-inch LED screen. The screen (model name MS_0001) supports a netbook-standard 1024 x 600 pixels in an approximate 16:9 aspect ratio. In contrast to the Acer Aspire One 522, the screen is AR coated and thus more suitable for outdoor use. A small webcam is built into the display. The black displayed on the Fujitsu Lifebook E781 is better than average, while cheaper laptops have a disappointing greyish black. Looking at pictures with dark areas or watching a film with dark sequences is a true pleasure on the E781. The notebook may have average coverage of the sRGB color space, but this does not affect the overall use much as the system is not intended for professional graphics editors. Asus K43J Battery

The very good display of the Lifebook E781 is suitable for outdoor use. The content may become unclear when the display is under direct sunlight, but the user can easily work on the laptop if under shade. It’s common to have more than one person at a time staring at the screen of a business laptop. Here, displays with poor viewing angle stability are a bad choice. The Fujitsu Lifebook E781 is a different story. The horizontal viewing angle is stable on a very wide angle and the contrast drops only slightly. Vertically, the display darkens quickly when pushed backward. On the other hand, when pushed downwards, the display gets brighter. Fujitsu offers 8 different CPUs for the Lifebook E781 from the Intel Core i series. These processors are all dual-core CPUs. Our test model is in the lower third of the E781 series as it is equipped with a standard Intel Core i5-2430M. The dual-core CPU runs at 2.4 GHz and represents the middle-class of mobile processors from Intel. In our test model, we have 4 GB DDR3-1333 RAM and the model supports a maximum 8 GB. The test model has a single 4 GB module installed which makes upgrading easy.

The Intel Core i5-2430M provides no surprises – positive or negative. The performance of the Fujitsu Lifebook E781 is exactly at the level expected and is close to other laptops with similar specifications. The Turbo Boost function works flawlessly and delivers full performance. Even after multiple hours of stress testing, the cores did not throttle down. Another worthy note is that the full performance is possible even while running on battery. Asus K43S Battery

The system performance of the Fujitsu Lifebook E781 notebook is average as expected of the middle-class internal hardware. Windows gives the laptop a low performance index of 4.7 points due to the graphics card, but the laptop can still hold its own compared the competition. In fact, it can even compete with laptops with stronger processors as the system performance is not determined by the CPU alone. Asus K43SC Battery

The buyer has a variety of options for the storage device. Fujitsu offers SSDs with 128 GB capacity to 5400 rpm HDDs with a capacity up to 320 GB. Our test model uses a 7200 rpm 500GB Toshiba HDD with a SATA II interface (3 GB/s). This storage device is a good choice for a business laptop. Unfortunately, the drive constantly emitted a low whirring noise. At load, it even emitted a high-pitched whining – uncomfortable to say the least. Asus K43SD Battery

The shock sensor works very well. In our test, we received notifications that the read heads of the drive were locked due to shaking. This is an especially useful feature while the notebook is on-the-move.

The performance of the Toshiba drive is similar to the competition. It is fast enough for a business notebook, but the Toshiba HDD cannot compete with truly fast drives as it has a maximum transfer rate of 100 MB/s. SSDs are in a different category. Zum edlen Aussehen tragen auch die recht schlanke Linie und das geradlinige Design bei. Auf optische Schörkel wurde offenbar bewusst verzichtet. Gut so, finden wir. Mit knapp 25 Millimetern Höhe ist das Gerät für ein vollwertiges Multimedia-Device mit optischem Laufwerk durchaus noch als schlank zu bezeichnen. Geradezu filigran ist der Displaydeckel. Das sieht gut aus. Die Stabilität leidet jedoch unter dem dünnen Rahmen. So lässt sich das Display sehr leicht verwinden, und es macht zum Teil nicht allzu vertrauenerweckende Knarzgeräusche. Auch die Scharniere dürften etwas größer und stabiler ausfallen. Die halten den Bildschirm nicht immer zuverlässig in Position. Lässt man das Display beim Verstellen ruckartig los, wackelt es noch über zwei Sekunden lang weiter. Zudem begrenzen die Scharniere den Öffnungswinkel und lassen nur gut 45 Grad nach hinten zu. Sony bezeichnet das Vaio VPC-SE2M9E/B als Unterhaltungsgerät und Multimedia-Notebook. Dazu sollte auch die Ausstattung passen. Das 15.5-Zoll-Display mit FullHD-Auflösung macht da schon einmal einen guten Anfang. Das Blu-ray-Laufwerk mit DVD-Brenner-Funktion ist ebenfalls ein Muss in diesem Segment. Akku HP HSTNN-LB42

Die Anschlüsse platziert Sony ausschließlich an der rechten und linken Gehäuseseite. Während die Rückseite komplett frei von jeglichen Bedienelementen ist, befindet sich an der linken Frontseite ein praktischer Schiebeschalter zum Ein- und Ausschalten aller kabellosen Kommunikationsmodule. Eine LED gibt Auskunft über die Position des Schalters. Zwei weitere kleine Lichtchen zeigen die Festplattenaktivität an und ob der Akku gerade geladen wird. DataWind, the company spearheading the Aakash tablet project, has blamed break up of its relationship with Hyderabad-based vendor Quad Electronics for the delay in shipping of the Aakash tablets. Wochen vor dem offiziellen Start der mit Spannung erwarteten CPU-Generation Ivy Bridge konnten wir bereits einen genauen Blick auf den neuen Top-Gamer von Asus, das 17-zöllige G75V werfen. Unser Testgerät, ein handgefertiges Vorserienmodell, entsprach weitgehend dem finalen Produkt, wobei natürlich nicht ausgeschlossen werden kann, dass der Hersteller in letzter Minute noch Details ändert (Lüftersteuerung, Software etc.). Vorgänger. Die dunkelgraue Oberfläche ist mit einer angenehm akku,AC Adapter HP 562 weichen und recht unempfindlichen Gummierung versehen, die nur bei fettigen Fingern zu Verschmutzungen neigt.

Größere Änderungen sind auf der Rückseite erkennbar. So hat der Hersteller die ehemals mittig sitzenden Lüftungsschlitze (G74) wieder nach außen verfrachtet (G73). Weitere Unterschiede offenbaren sich auf der linken und rechten Seite: Statt das akku,AC Adapter HP 630

Dass sich der Hersteller bei der Optik viele Gedanken gemacht hat, sieht man dem G75 besonders im geöffneten Zustand an: Wie die Seitenflächen erstrahlen auch die Lautsprecherleiste und die Tastaturunterlage (Aluminium) in einem schicken Silber. Die Handballenablage, welche etwas rauer gummiert ist als der Deckel, bleibt hingegen dunkelgrau.

Da es sich bei unserem Testgerät um ein handgefertigtes Presample handelte, können in puncto Verarbeitungsqualität noch keine akku,AC Adapter HP 640

Kommen wir zur Stabilität, die in der Summe bereits bei der getesteten Vorserie recht ordentlich ausfällt. Beim G75 hat sich Asus endlich einem der bisher größten Kritikpunkte gewidmet: der mäßigen Schnittstellenvielfalt. eSATA und FireWire gibt es zwar immer noch nicht, dafür entdeckt der Käufer auf der rechten Seite neben einem VGA- und HDMI-Anschluss nun auch einen Mini-DisplayPort. Die USB-Ports hat der Hersteller ebenfalls aktualisiert, das Notebook enthält ganze vier USB-3.0-Ports (G74: 3x USB 2.0, 1x USB 3.0).

So wartet das Kensington Lock jetzt auf der Rückseite, der akku,AC Adapter Acer Ferrari 4000 Kartenleser ist von der rechten auf die linke Seite gewandert. Das Funkmodul von Qualcomm trägt die Bezeichnung Atheros AR9485WB-EG. Die PCIe-Karte (2.4 GHz) beherrscht die üblichen WLAN-Standards (802.11 b/g/n etc.) und übertragt Daten mit maximal 150 Mbit/s. Bluetooth 3.0 ist ebenfalls an Board.

When the machine is in idle with nothing to do, and all energy-saving options are enabled (brightness on the lowest setting, wireless off), the idle energy consumption is 11.4 Watts. It is also good to see that most ports have been positioned on the back edge of the machine. The notebook’s downsides start with the workmanship and finish with the keyboard. You can’t escape that plasticky feel with the CR620, mainly because several pieces are not quite accurately cut and some cables can become visible. Office users may be able to overlook this given time, but not the rattly keys and the poor touchpad feedback. The keyboard flexes, some of the keys are tiny and the touchpad keys have virtually no travel. If you type a lot, we simply cannot recommend this machine for you. Acer Aspire 5633WLMi Battery

In addition, the poor battery life (due to the low battery capacity) along with the reflective screen with poor contrast make portable use of the laptop rather difficult. After two and a half hours the really quite chunky 15.6-inch machine has to return to a power socket. The gaming suitability should therefore lie on a comparable level with the G73. How does this look when it comes to the application specific benchmarks, such as PCMark Vantage? Can the G73JW race ahead thanks to its potent amounts of RAM, or the fast hybrid hard drive combination?Asus A42-U36

Cards on the table; with 5570 points the tested G53 is still slightly behind the 17 inch Asus G73, which achieves 5804 points in this discipline. A glance at our library shows the G53JW on a level with Lenovo’s office notebook T410 (620M/NVS3100M), which is similarly equipped to the Qosmio X500, but stays slightly behind the G53 with 5441 points.Asus a42-u31

New limits are set by the Asus G53JW in terms of storage capacity. The 15 inch case contains, as already the case of its 17 inch relative, space for two 2.5 inch hard drives. Asus has fitted two 750 GB hard drives from Seagate into our tested device. The ST9750420AS turns with 7200 revolutions per minute. On our tested device, the total storage capacity of 1.5 Terabytes was divided among four partitions. How this will be configured in detail for the final retail version is still not clear.Asus 90-NVA1B2000Y

In the HDTune benchmark test the ST9750420AS gives good results. Data transfer rates up to 108.7 MB/s, and access times from 17.1 milliseconds are definitely among the best for conventional hard drives.Asus 70-NF51B1000

Not only the performance interested us with the multi player shooter. How does a direct comparison in a shooter look with respect to the competitiveness using 3D images – disadvantage or perhaps a helpful cheat?Asus A32-F80H

Straight away after the first few exchanges of fire, we were already struck by dismay. We even had difficulties trying to overcome the first easy minutes of the game using the 3D mode with a low difficulty setting in single player mode. The optics were definitely attractive and compelling, the lack in precision however quickly led to aggravation.Asus L0690LC

On the performance side the Asus G53JW managed 68.9 frames per seconds on average in our 2D benchmark test (intro single player), using medium detail settings (1366,768, HBAO off, 1xAA, 1xAF) and 53.5 FPS using high presets (1366×768, HBAO of, 1xAA, 4xAF). The comparatively equipped G73JW was only able to achieve a marginally better 54.2 FPS in our tests. In 3D use the halving of the performance that takes place is to be expected, even if with only small deviations. Using medium detail level settings the G53JW offers 35.2 FPS on average, using high detail settings this was only 26.1 FPS. The current version of Call of Duty falls into the same category as BFBC2. With respect to playability the gaming performance in Battlefield can’t really be improved.
