The 15-inch MacBook Pro sports the same carved-from-a-single-chunk-of-metal unibody VGP-BPS9/S design as before, with a sturdy aluminum chassis and rounded edges. The overall look is classy and modern, though it makes upgrading VGP-BPS9/B individual components (such as the RAM and hard drive) difficult, as the entire bottom must be unscrewed.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro held up well during our heat test, where we play a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes. The VGP-BPS9A/B space between the G and H keys registered 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the touchpad measured just 83 degrees. However, the back rear VGP-BPS9 bottom of the notebook reached an uncomfortable 106 degrees.

Keyboard and Touchpad
Similar to other MacBook Pros, our unit featured VGP-BPS13 a shallow keyboard with black, isolated keys that provided solid feedback when typing URLs and writing documents. The keys are backlit, a feature that can be activated manually or by the ambient light sensor, which will illuminate the keys when typing in low-light VGP-BPS13A/B situations (such as a darkened plane cabin). While we were typing in a dark room, the soft glow enabled us to see the keys vgp-bps13/b clearly.

Apple was the first company to introduce mouse vgp-bps13b/q buttons integrated into the touchpad itself, and while others have imitated this feature, the MacBook Pro’s touchpad remains the best. Not only is it huge–4.1 x 3 inches–but we could easily execute multitouch gestures like pinch to zoom, rotate, and swiping four vgp-bps13a/q fingers down to see all open windows (Expose)

The 15-inch MacBook Pro has the same dimensions (14.4 x 9.8 x 1 inches) and weight (5.6 pounds) vgp-bps13/q as the previous version. While we definitely felt the extra heft while carrying the machine home, it did fit in our messenger bag, which is vgp-bps8 more than we can say about most 15-inch notebooks. The Dell XPS 15, for example, weighs a pound more and measures a bulkier 15 x 10.4 x 1.3 to 1.5 inches. Regardless, the MacBook Pro will take up an entire airline tray VGP-BPS2A table.

Stroke per stroke, the keyboard is the part of your VGP-BPS2C notebook you interact with the most. A great keyboard can make you more efficient, allowing you to enter text quickly and comfortably. On the other hand, a poor keyboard, can cause shoulder, wrist, or finger soreness in addition to a raft of typos. To help you VGP-BPS2 choose a notebook with a great keyboard, we’ve scoured our lab for the some of the best (and worst) VGP-BPS2B examples.

Design
The 15-inch MacBook Pro sports the same carved-from-a-single-chunk-of-metal unibody design as before, VGP-BPS5 with a sturdy aluminum chassis and rounded edges. The overall look is classy and modern, though it makes upgrading individual pa3535u-1brs components (such as the RAM and hard drive) difficult, as the entire bottom must be unscrewed.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro has the same dimensions (14.4 x 9.8 x 1 inches) and weight (5.6 pounds) as the previous version. While PA3534U-1BRS we definitely felt the extra heft while carrying the machine home, it did fit in our messenger bag, which is more than we can say about most vgp-bps21a 15-inch notebooks. The Dell XPS 15, for example, weighs a pound more and measures a bulkier 15 x 10.4 x 1.3 to 1.5 inches. Regardless, the vgp-bps21/s MacBook Pro will take up an entire airline tray table.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro held up well during our heat test, where we play a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes. vgp-bps21b The space between the G and H keys registered 90 degrees Fahrenheit, and the touchpad measured just 83 degrees. However, the back rear bottom vgp-bps21 of the notebook reached an uncomfortable 106 degrees.

Lenovo’s business notebooks have long set the gold vgp-bps21a/b standard for notebook keyboards, with their strong tactile feedback and concave surfaces that make it easy for touch typists to feel the boundaries between keys. The keyboard on the ThinkPad T410 and T410s takes Lenovo’s keyboards to the next level by enlarging VGP-BPS22A some of the most important keys, including Esc and Delete. This series is the one to get if you’re serious above comfort and VGP-BPS22 accuracy.

Last year when Apple updated its 15-inch MacBook Pro, it packed a Core i7 CPU and switchable Latitude D420 Battery graphics into the company’s iconic unibody aluminum chassis. Apple is upping the ante again, this time with Intel’s second-gen Core elitebook 8530w battery processor, AMD graphics, a high-definition webcam, and Thunderbolt, a new high-speed connection that can transfer an entire HD movie in less than 30 seconds. Plus, this powerhouse still delivers excellent battery life. Apple kept the price the same elitebook 8530p battery as before (starting at $1,799; $2,199 as configured), so how much more do you get for your money?

Keyboard and Touchpad
Similar to other MacBook Pros, our unit featured a shallow keyboard with black, isolated keys that elitebook 8540w battery provided solid feedback when typing URLs and writing documents. The keys are backlit, a feature that can be activated manually elitebook 8730p battery or by the ambient light sensor, which will illuminate the keys when typing in low-light situations (such as a darkened plane cabin). While we were typing in a dark room, the soft glow enabled us to see the keys clearly.

As proof, BGR reports that mobile app developer ShopSavvy has uncovered a few BlackBerry devices running the Android probook 4710s battery version of its popular application.

The developers say that between January 17 and Feburary 7, three BlackBerry handsets – the 8300 , probook 4510s battery 8520, and 8600 – accessed their ShopSavvy servers while running the Android version of the application. Furthermore, probook 4410s battery the geographic information captured in their records point back to Waterloo, Ontario in Canada, a.k.a RIM’s base of operations.
BGR originally reported that RIM intended to include Android App support solely for the PlayBook business tablet, which runs probook 4515s battery a QNX-based operating system and not BlackBerry OS. Odds are that the handsets found in ShopSavvy’s records are simply test machines, vgp-bps10/b battery and not that RIM is toying with Android app support for not only the PlayBook but some or all RIM smart phones as well. But wouldn’t vgp-bps10a/b battery adding more than 100,000 Android applications to those listed on BlackBerry App World be a very cool value-add for smart phone and PlayBook users? Yes, it would.

Apple was the first company to introduce mouse buttons integrated into the touchpad itself, and while others have imitated vgp-bps10a this feature, the MacBook Pro’s touchpad remains the best. Not only is it huge–4.1 x 3 inches–but we could easily execute multitouch gestures like pinch to vgp-bps10/s zoom, rotate, and swiping four fingers down to see all open windows (Expose).

Boy Genius Report reports that when the BlackBerry elitebook 6930p battery PlayBook is released some time this year, it will not only support all applications in BlackBerry App World, it will offer support for any and all Android applications elitebook 8730w battery as well.

Today HTC pulled the tarp off of its Merge handset, an Android 2.2 keyboard slider. The company expects the thinkpad r61 battery Merge to hit multiple North American cellular networks this spring. Notable specs include a 3.8-inch, 800 x 480 touchscreen, a 5 megapixel camera, and a thinkpad t400 battery slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

The iPad 2 big reveal is almost upon us, but the Thinkpad T410 Battery rumor mill continues to churn out guesswork and secrets on the upcoming sequel. The latest details surface from Engadget, whose sources predict that the iPad 2 will not feature two previously reported specs, namely an SD card slot and the much-desired thinkpad t500 battery higher-resolution 1280 x 800 display.

Sources report that “engineering issues” may have forced some last-minute tweaks to the device, thinkpad t42 battery but no concrete causes were mentioned. Specs that are still on deck include a Qualcomm GSM/CDMA chip for support from multiple thinkpad t43 battery carriers, a faster A5 CPU, 512MB RAM, a slimmer frame, and at least one camera facing either front or back. That’s still plenty to be excited about.

All details will be revealed for sure at the Apple press event in San Francisco next Wednesday, March 2. You can find 3000 v100 battery us there by reading our blog here.

The Merge, a.k.a Lexicon, has been rumored for a while now, but it appears plans for its entry laptop battery into the US market are imminent. As a CDMA device, the Merge could conceivably land on national CDMA carriers such as Sprint and Sony Laptop Battery Verizon Wireless. Its touted ability to provide global 3G roaming, likely via dual GSM access, points to Verizon though since the carrier has offered handsets with similar capabilities in the past (such as the Motorola Droid HP/Compaq Laptop Battery Pro).

Still, the apparent lack of 4G support and modest specs may indicate that the Merge Dell Laptop Battery is destined for smaller and regional cellular networks such as Cellular South and Metro PCS. Of course, there are always Canadian carriers Lenovo/IBM Laptop Battery such as Telus, too. Guess we’ll have to sit tight until CTIA next month for confirmation.

Heat
Despite its small size, the dm1z is one of the coolest notebooks we’ve yet tested. Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery Employing HP’s CoolSense technology–first seen on the dm3t–the dm1z has HP’s Thermal Assistant software, which automatically adjusts the Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery fan speed if it senses the notebook is on a person’s lap or on a table. After streaming a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes, the touchpad, G and H keys, and underside measured 76, 78, and 77 degrees, respectively. However, fan noise was Sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery noticeable in a quiet room, and we could feel it whirring when we had our hands on the palm rests.

Ports and Webcam
On the left side of the dm1z is an HDMI and a USB port. On the right are two more USB ports, Sony VGP-BPS9 Battery VGA, a headphone/mic combo, and an SD card reader.

Go big or go home. That’s the mantra of the Sony VGP-BPS13 battery HP Envy 17 3D. This large but stylish desktop replacement features an Intel Core i7 processor, powerful ATI graphics, a 3D-capable, full HD display, and a Blu-ray player. Starting at $1,599 ($1,649 as configured), the 3D version of the notebook costs the Sony VGP-BPS13A/B Battery same as a similarly equipped non-3D version we reviewed just three months ago. Sounds like a sweet deal. But how does this machine sony vgp-bps13s Battery stack up to laptops powered by Nvidia’s 3D Vision technology? And is there enough 3D content to make donning those glasses sony vgp-bps13/s Battery worth the trouble? Our in-depth review reveals all.

Editor’s Note: Portions of this review were taken from our earlier review sony vgp-bps13a/s Battery of the HP Envy 17.

Keyboard and Touchpad
Like most other notebooks in HP’s lineup, the sony vgp-bps13as Battery dm1z has a chiclet-style keyboard that extends nearly to the edges of the chassis. Though the keys don’t have as much travel as, say, the Envy 17, it was still a pleasure to type this review on the laptop. We were up to our usual typing rate in no time. HP sony vgp-bps13b/b Battery thoughtfully reversed the function row keys; you don’t have to press FN to adjust the volume or sony vgp-bps13b/s Battery brightness.

Also like the Envy line, the dm1z’s mouse buttons are integrated into the touchpad. This makes the hp elitebook 8730w battery overall size (3.3 x 2 inches) the same as the Eee PC 1215N, but that netbook has discrete buttons, making its hp elitebook 6930p battery touchpad feel much more spacious. In this case, though, HP integrated a small ridge to help define the two areas. Those who use two hands on a touchpad may find that the cursor jumps every now and then, but overall it works fairly well for this type sony vgp-bps10/s battery of design.

HP is once again targeting the education market with its new Mini 1103 netbook. Unlike sony vgp-bps10a battery the kid-focused Mini 100e, this netbook looks and acts like a consumer model, but keeps the price low for cash-strapped schools and sony vgp-bps10a/b battery other institutions. Though not the flashiest system on the block, the $299 Mini 1103 combines very long battery life with decent performance for $50 to $100 less than many sony vgp-bps10/b battery competitors.

For the target market, the non-descript yet functional design of the Mini 1103 is just right. probook 4515s battery You won’t find the same flair as other HP models, but it’s not as toy-looking as the Mini 100e, which is geared toward younger students. hp probook 4410s battery However, the Toshiba mini NB505 offers bright color options and a more eye-catching design.

Heat
The top of the Mini 1103 stayed pretty cool, with the touchpad measuring only 85 degrees after playing a Hulu video at full screen hp probook 4510s battery for 15 minutes. The space between the G and H keys was about the same: 86 degrees. The underside of the netbook got up to 92 hp probook 4710s battery degrees, which is within our acceptable range.

Keyboard and Touchpad
The Mini 1103 doesn’t have the modern chiclet-style hp elitebook 8730p battery layout of the Mini 210. However, the keys are well sized and placed, and we like the terraced treatment, which provides a better grip. We like that the media and system controls are one touch away, while the Function keys are hp elitebook 8540w battery secondary.

Design
The HP Mini 1103’s design is basic yet attractive. The overall aesthetic is closer to the Pavilion hp elitebook 8530p battery dm1 and dm3 rather than high-end business netbooks such as the Mini 5103. The glossy black lid and display bezel pick up hp elitebook 8530w battery smudges, but thankfully the rest of the netbook features matte plastic. As with the Pavilion dm1 and the Mini 210, the bottom of the unit is a smooth line with just one panel to remove. This makes it easier to upgrade or repair internal components, Dell Latitude D420 Battery such as the RAM or hard drive.

The 3.1 x 1.25-inch touchpad on the Mini 1103 has a fairly small surface when compared to Sony VGP-BPS22 Battery other recent netbooks and even other HP models. This is due to the system having separate mouse buttons instead of integrated ones, Sony VGP-BPS22A Battery as with a clickpad. The buttons are fairly large as well. Users who prefer physical buttons will likely not mind sacrificing some of the touch surface.

Just because the once-hot netbook category is getting pushed aside by tablets, that doesn’t mean consumers don’t want a low-cost sony vgp-bps21a/b battery ultraportable that performs. And that’s what HP has delivered with the new Pavilion dm1z, an 11-inch notebook featuring AMD’s new sony vgp-bps21 battery Fusion processor. Starting at $449 ($479 as configured), this 3.4-pound machine blows past Atom-based netbooks while providing enough sony vgp-bps21b battery endurance to see you through the day. Add to that a stylish design, excellent audio, and a comfy keyboard, and you’ve got a superior take-anywhere sony vgp-bps21/s battery laptop.

Design
Similar in design to the Pavilion dm3t, the Pavilion dm1z is easily one of the most attractive 11-inch systems on the market. The glossy sony vgp-bps21a battery black lid features HP’s new Grid Imprint design, which looks attractive, but fingerprint smudges are still visible. The underside is also a glossy toshiba pa3535u-1brs battery black; we prefer the rubberized finish of the dm3t, but that notebook has a higher starting price.

Inside, the dm1z’s black island-style keyboard Toshiba PA3534U-1BRS Battery and clickpad are offset by a silver deck and bezel; it’s understated yet stylish. Measuring 11.4 x 8.4 x 0.8 x 1.2 inches and weighing 3.4 pounds, the dm1z is nearly the same size and weight as the Asus Eee PC 1215N. As with that supersized netbook, Sony VGP-BPS2B Battery the dm1z fits easily into a messenger bag, and while noticeable, it didn’t weigh laptop battery us down.

Display and Audio
One curious aspect of the 10.1-inch, 1024 x 600-pixel resolution screen on the Mini 1103 is that users Sony Laptop Battery can open it a full 180 degrees, allowing the entire netbook to lie flat. However, the viewing angles on the anti-glare display are somewhat narrow. Two people HP/Compaq Laptop Battery sitting side by side can share the screen, but sit any further away, and you’ll encounter color Dell Laptop Battery distortion.

The 1103’s volume was surprisingly strong from the narrow speaker just under the netbook’s front lip. Lenovo/IBM Laptop Battery We were able to fill a medium-sized room with audio with the volume on 70 percent. When watching Hulu videos, we didn’t need to crank it up to hear. Sound was somewhat flat and a little tinny at the at the max, but that’s to be expected.

Design
Available in black, green, light brown, and white, the uniquely designed Bone Horn Stand Sony VGP-BPS13 battery is compatible with the original iPhone, the iPhone 3G/3GS, and the iPhone 4. We like its soft-touch, rubbery texture, and its light weight Sony VGP-BPS13A/B Battery (just 3.2 ounces compared to 11.2 ounces for the Griffin AirCurve and 1.2 pounds for the Clingo Universal Parabolic Sound Sphere) makes it easy to toss in your bag (or jacket pocket) and take Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery with you.

The HP Envy 14 and its audio cousin, the Envy 14 Beats, sports a Core i5 or i7 CPU sony vgp-bps13/b battery (depending on your power preference and wallet) and comes in at a thin (for being a Quad Core) 5.25 pounds. It also features ATI Mobility Sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery Radeon discrete/switchable graphics, Beats Audio, a 14.5-inch (1600 x 900) HD Radiance display (59% brighter than standard displays), a backlit keyboard, and a HP TrueVision HD Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery webcam

Verdict
The Bone Horn Stand amplifier for the iPhone offers a clever, compact way to Sony VGP-BPS9 Battery boost your tunes. The accessory added as much as 12 decibels to our music. Overall, we prefer the sound quality offered by the $19.99 Griffin sony vgp-bps13b/q battery AirCurve, but if you’re looking for something you can stuff in your pocket, the Bone Horn is the way to go

Quick: What’s the most popular size notebook? What’s the most popular price? If you guessed 15 inches and $500, you’d be sony vgp-bps13a/q battery right on both counts. The Acer Aspire 5742 hits both of these sweet spots, and while compromises must be made when you’re talking about a sony vgp-bps13/q battery budget system, this notebook largely satisfies. While its specs (Core i3 CPU, 1366 x 768 display, 320GB hard drive) won’t blow anyone away, Sony VGP-BPS10 Battery they’re good enough for the vast majority of people who just need a notebook to surf the web, do office work, watch videos, and stay on top of social networking Sony VGP-BPS2A Battery feeds.

Performance
The Bone Horn is rated to increase your iPhone’s sound by 13 decibels, and–to our pleasant surprise–it delivered plenty of volume. Sony VGP-BPS2C Battery "Hong Kong Garden" by Siouxsie and the Banshees registered 8 decibels louder (90dB versus 82 without the speaker). Sony VGP-BPS2 Battery In fact, unlike the Sound Sphere, this speaker reliably boosted every song we played. Blasting Michael Jackson’s "Billy Jean" gave us a 10 decibel Sony VGP-BPS2B Battery advantage over the iPhone’s speaker (66dB versus 76dB), though the track sounded warped. However, the $19.99 Griffin AirCurve delivered 86dB for the same song–and the bass sounded toshiba pa3535u-1brs battery clearer.

Loudness is one thing, but sound quality is another. Toshiba PA3534U-1BRS Battery While the Bone Horn Stand Amplifier offers a significant boost in decibels, it does have a limited range. Thanks to the speaker’s horn shape (which acts as a sort of funnel), your amped-up music won’t travel very far beyond the speaker itself. Sony VGP-BPS22 Battery Additionally, we detected a fair amount of tinniness when using the speaker, and bass-heavy tracks often sounded muffled and distorted. Sony VGP-BPS22A Battery If you’re planning on listening to your music while doing a task nearby (such as cooking dinner), the amplifier should add the necessary sony vgp-bps21a battery decibels to enjoy your beats. Still, the Griffin AirCurve reliably bested the Bone Horn Stand by as much as 10dB–and its sound traveled farther.

The decision to pair tablet devices with more robust Intel processors may explain Acer’s plan to phase out netbooks sony vgp-bps21/s battery in the future: if tablets are packed with netbook power, who needs a netbook?

Computer World’s source credited the decision to the current state of the mobile device sony vgp-bps21b battery market, which currently skews upward for tablets while netbook sales are declining.

The company told Computer World that its new line of tablets – sony vgp-bps21 battery 7-and 10-inch slates with Android’s Honeycomb OS for tablets and set to debut the first half of this year – will initiate a paradigm shift in the company’s approach to smaller notebooks. Namely, “they are aimed at phasing out netbooks,” sony vgp-bps21a/b battery an unidentified sales manager told Computer World.

Erasing the drawing board on its netbook lineup may sound extreme, but Acer’s new tablets thinkpad r61 battery (demo’ed briefly in November) may feature Intel’s next-generation Sandy Bridge processors. Those CPU’s are typically reserved for faster thinkpad t400 battery computing in full-sized Windows 7 notebooks and netbooks, but Acer will feature the chips inside the types of Android tablets that otherwise would be powered by low-voltage ARM T410 Battery chips.

But the tablet market isn’t even a year-old, and though a fleet of tablets are planned for 2011, the market for thinkpad t500 battery the touch-ready, highly-mobile gadgets could cool just as suddenly as netbooks did in 2010. Of course, that will depend on the performance thinkpad t61 battery and practicality of the oncoming tablet fleet. And we won’t know that until Acer and others begin releasing them

The Horn Stand can hold an iPhone both vertically and horizontally; while it can accommodate a rubber iPhone 4 bumper, bulkier cases thinkpad t60 battery will have to be removed first. When an iPhone 4 inserted, we could easily connect our sync cable, and a raised rubber home button made thinkpad t60p battery it easy to activate that function. Unfortunately, the amplifier tipped over with the cable inserted; without the cable Bone Horne stood thinkpad r60 battery upright.

The HP Envy line of notebooks has been a solid performer to date. So naturally, anytime we see a price drop, we immediately thinkpad r60e battery put out a buy recommendation quicker than sales of Apple stock.

With a gimmicky design that evokes an old-school gramophone, the Bone Horn Stand Amplifier thinkpad x60 battery offers an impressive sound boost considering its diminutive size. This passive iPhone amplifier ($24.95) provides more volume than you’d expect for thinkpad X60S battery such a small package, and it doesn’t use any battery life. What’s not to like?

Design
Both the lid and the deck of the Aspire 5742 are a matte black that resists fingerprints. It has grid-like indentations patterned thinkpad t40 battery to look like diamond plating. Looks-wise, it’s on a par with less expensive Toshiba Satellites, such as the L or C series, but not as attractive as the pricier thinkpad t42 battery Samsung SF510 ($629), which has a distinctive wave design, ivory lid, and chocolate x200 battery brown interior.

As with most budget notebooks, the 5742 is otherwise unadorned thinkpad t43 battery with stylized accents or special buttons. Above the keyboard is a nondescript speaker grille; on the left are a power button and status lights for the hard drive 3000 v100 battery and Wi-Fi.

Keyboard x300 battery and Touchpad
The 5742 uses Acer’s now-standard FineTip keyboard, which has flat, island-style keys. While it’s not as comfortable as 3000 v200 battery a Lenovo keyboard, we appreciated the large keys, as well as the full-size number pad on the 3000 n100 battery right.

The 3.2 x 1.8-inch touchpad was a decent size and friction-free, but given all the space on the deck, it 3000 n200 battery could have been larger. The mouse buttons are combined into a single bar, which worked fine, but we prefer discrete buttons. Even an indentation in the 3000 c200 battery middle would help.

Weighing 5 pounds even, the 5742 is fairly portable for a 3000 y410 battery 15-inch notebook. While you probably wouldn’t want to lug this laptop on a business trip, it’s thin and light enough to carry around the house with r51e battery ease.

Heat
After streaming a Hulu video at full screen for 15 minutes, the Aspire 5742’s touchpad was r50e battery just 89 degrees Fahrenheit, the space between the G and H keys was 90 degrees, and the middle of the underside was a cool 79 degrees. All spots are well below what good battery we consider uncomfortable (95 degrees and higher), although the area by the vent on the left side did reach a hot 103 degrees.

Personalize a Dell Studio notebook with any one of the dozens of exclusive notebook VGP-BPS13 Battery chassis — commissioned from global artists by Dell for (PRODUCT) RED — and the company makes a $20 contribution VGP-BPS13A/B Battery to the Global Fund to help eliminate AIDS in Africa. Choose a special RED design on a new Dell Studio 17 (which we rated 4 stars) or the Studio line’s 15.6-inch model at Dell.com for VGP-BPS13/B $85.

Does your loved one have an old T-shirt that’s all but worn out? Instead of tossing it, turn it into a double gift at HelloRewind.com. VGP-BPS13B/B Buy a custom laptop sleeve in four sizes, from 9.7 to 17 inches, for $49. Hello Rewind sends a postage-paid envelope to mail in his T-shirt. VGP-BPS13A/S Battery Within two to four weeks after receiving it, Hello will repurpose the shirt as a protective laptop sleeve and then send it back to you. VGP-BPS9 Battery Proceeds from the sale are used to help fight sex trafficking and give victimized women a new start.

From Google Voice to Microsoft Kinect, using human interaction to command consumer electronics has become all the rage these VGP-BPS8 Battery days. AT&T, in a bid to develope some of its own buzz , just held an event here in New York to rattle its voice recognition sabre. Perhaps to VGP-BPS9A/B Battery counteract today’s news that Google Voice has come to the iPhone, spokesmen from AT&T Labs touted the company’s Watson VGP-BPS9/B Battery speech engine and services platform. To show how the technology can tackle a number of tasks, exhibitors displayed many interesting if far-flung applications.

For instance within a living room setting, a voice to text function translated a TV feed between Spanish and English in real-time. VGP-BPS9/S Battery Unfortunately other more complicated (and arguably more in demand) languages like Japanese, Chinese, or Korean were not demonstrated. Even so, VGP-BPS8A Battery an AT&T spokesman floated the idea that gesture-based interaction isn’t that far off since both it and translation and use similar statistical VGP-BPS2A Battery algorithms.

AT&T also had developers showing their wares which VGP-BPS2B Battery rely on Watson technology. Speak4it, a current iPhone app allows users to touch areas on a map and search for items of interest nearby via voice commands. Vlingo, another app-maker, offers more comprehensive control of your phone by VGP-BPS2C Battery letting users issue global voice commands. For example you can order your phone to send a text message to a contact and speak the contents VGP-BPS21 of the text, all in the same breath.
Most interesting though is AT&T’s Safe (vgp-bps21a/b battery Strong Authentication For Everyone) security protocol. It uses four factors for authentication; voice, account info, validated mobile device, and location. The good news is these protocols are envisioned to operate behind the scenes to enable faster, more convenient vgp-bps21/s battery account protection and login.

Of course many of these same abilities are built into Android phones, Microsoft’s Xbox Kinect, Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery and the now the iPhone via Google Voice. It remains to be seen how AT&T, even with the legacy of the legendary Bell Labs, can VGP-BPS9A/B Battery withstand the Google juggernaught

As the maker of iPad, iPhone, and laptop bags, Isis commissions artists from around the globe to design cases with eye-catching VGP-BPS9 Battery functionality. The $60 TP Pack fits a 15.4-inch notebook securely with its thick back padding and 1680D polyester exterior. The interior lining vgp-bps13/b battery is made completely from recycled bottles. In addition to giving back to the environment, the purchase of this case (and all Isis products) VGP-BPS13 battery results in a donation to Deseret International, a nonprofit that funds reconstructive surgeries in third-world countries

There are a slew of portable hard drives in all colors and sizes, but Verbatim’s limited edition 500GB Pink Matters drive includes toshiba pa3535u-1brs battery an extra that other drives leave out: A portion of every sale is donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure to help in the fight against breast studio 17 battery cancer. The USB drive includes the Verbatim Turbo USB software for speedy reading and writing, and the Nero BackItUp and Burn studio 1737 battery Essentials software as well. $75 @ Amazon.

Design-wise, the Sony VAIO F plays a very conservative game. Our model’s chassis sports a smooth, matte gray lid, with the studio 1535 battery only embellishment being the understated Sony branding and larger VAIO logo writ in metallic silver. Weighing in at a hefty 6.4 pounds, the vostro 1510 battery VAIO F has a decidedly sturdy feel to it. Measuring 15.3 x 10.4 x 1.6 inches, the VAIO F can be stuffed into most laptop bags. However, vostro 1310 battery this laptop’s girth will make you think twice about lugging it anywhere for long. That said, the VAIO F is lighter than other desktop-replacement laptops on the market, such as the HP Envy 17 (7.5 pounds).

The VAIO F is crafted from black and dark gray plastics. While this lends a sober, business-like style to the laptop, it also isn’t what inspiron 1545 battery we’d call terribly premium; other machines in this price range offer metallic finishes. There is a little bit of flair here, such as the power button inspiron 1525 battery that sits in the circular hinge and glows green when the laptop is on and slowly pulses orange when asleep. Above the keyboard is a long latitude d630 battery speaker grille which subtly blends into the VAIO F’s dark gray color scheme. The expansive palm rest area is delicately textured.

The Lenovo IdeaPad U260 is a 12-inch, light-weight ultraportable notebook, but just cause it weighs 3 pounds doesn’t mean it’s a studio 15 battery performance featherweight. The IdeaPad U260 is packed with a standard Core i3 processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM, and a 320GB The storage latitude d620 battery device that holds your OS, programs, and data.
Learn Morehard drive. This system also features Dolby xps m1330 battery Advanced Audio, HDMI, 2 USB 2.0 ports, and a “4 hours battery life” on its default 4-cell battery

Providing up to 50 lumens of light, the Optoma PK301 is perfect for the friend who always wants to show off his pictures. He can also inspiron 6400 battery watch 480i, 480p, and 1080i videos on the closest wall, up to 120-inch diagonal. At 4.7 x 2.7 x 1.2 inches and only 0.5 pounds, the PK301 is inspiron 1501 battery ideal for bringing to parties, and it’s easy to hook up with inputs that include a 24-pin universal connector, mini-HDMI, microUSB, and a inspiron e1505 battery microSD card slot.

The proud new papa in your family wants to show his newborn’s pictures to everyone–without being tied to an outlet. The SP-H03 has good battery enough juice to show off pictures for close to two hours. Plus, it supports 1080i and 720p, so everyone can see Junior’s first smile in HD. hp battery This pico is about the size of a White Castle slider (2.8 x 2.8 x 1.5 inches) and weighs just 0.4 pounds, so while the new daddy may not like toting around sony battery Junior’s weighty diaper bag, he won’t mind carrying this.

The original goal of Boxee was pretty admirable. The startup wanted to make it easier for people to watch TV shows and other free acer battery stuff on the web without having to use a browser. Its slick software for the PC won such a loyal following that loads of geeks tried to load it on their apple battery Apple TVs. Well, now Boxee has finally released its own device called (appropriately enough) the Boxee Box. At $199, this piece of hardware is dell battery priced right in between the new Apple TV and latest Roku XDS (both $99) and the $299 Logitech Revue with Google TV. The interface looks pretty polished, and there’s lots of free content available for download right from your sofa using the clever dual-sided remote. hp battery However, even though Boxee showed off the box and interface for the first time nearly a year ago, three major premium content partners didn’t make battery it on board in time for launch. So does Boxee belong in your living room, and who is it really good for?

Sound quality and comfort are usually the two deciding factors at any price point, but your Sony VGP-BPS13 Battery preferences in these areas are shaped by where your intended will listen. If you’re shopping for a workout nut, look for VGP-BPS13A/B earbuds that have some method of staying securely in your ear. Commuters and frequent fliers will want something that brings the funk and nixes ambient noise. Home listeners are often concerned with little more than exquisite sound and comfortable earpads (over-the-ear style) Sony VGP-BPS13A/S Battery for long listening sessions.

For more advice on finding the perfect headphones in the right price range and style, read Sony VGP-BPS9 Battery on. For advice on all your holiday shopping needs, check out our Gadget Gift Guide

When you’re headphone shopping, chances Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery are you have a rough idea of who you’re shopping for and how much you’d like to spend, as is probably the case with most of your holiday gadget shopping. But price isn’t always an indicator of quality, so it helps to know where you want to put your money. Headphones Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery can be just as gimmicky as any other product, but some features that seem like frills are actually worth paying for. Gold-plated plugs fight Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery corrosion, detachable cables keep you from having to buy new headphones if the cable frays, and inline mics can be a big Sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery boon if you listen to music on your smart phone

Design
At 11.6 x 7.6 x 0.6 inches and 2.2 pounds, the ExoPC Slate is the largest slate we’ve ever Sony VGP-BPS8A Battery reviewed and, by far the bulkiest (only the now-defunct Joo Joo tablet is bigger). That’s significantly heavier than the rival Sony VGP-BPS2 Battery iPad (1.5 pounds) and more than twice as heavy as the Samsung Galaxy Tab (13.6 ounces). However, the ExoPC has a much larger display and has to accommodate larger components such as a fan to cool its Atom N450 CPU. When holding the tablet in our hands, we couldn’t Sony VGP-BPS2A Battery help but notice the heft after even a couple of minutes of use.

The all-black design aesthetic is simple, but classy. We particularly like the highly grippable soft-touch Sony VGP-BPS2B Battery rubberized back, which has the attractive pink and green ExoPC logo emblazoned on it. Our biggest issue with the design, Sony VGP-BPS2C Battery other than the weight, is that the screen smudges up with fingerprints quickly.

The 11.6-inch, 1366 x 768 display offers more screen real estate and resolution than any other tablet on the market. However, even at xps m1530 battery maximum brightness, colors seemed dim, particularly in a room with lighting that bounces off the glossy screen. Viewing angles were solid from 45 xps m1730 battery degrees to the left and right, but you’ll want to tilt the tablet toward your face to get the best view.

Rotating the display activates the accelerometer, inspiron 1420 battery which switches from portrait to landscape mode. Unfortunately, the accelerometer alternates between being too sensitive and failing to change even when we shook the tablet to encourage it. When the display does change orientations, the screen goes black and takes as vostro 1400 battery much as five seconds to finish, completely interrupting your workflow.

Even worse, when we rotated the Slate while a QuickTime movie was playing, the screen went black and Dell CF623 battery we were unable to even bring up the keyboard to hit the Esc key. Only putting the computer to sleep and waking it again allowed us to Dell latitude d610 battery regain control. When we rotated the display from landscape to portrait in the middle of playing a YouTube video, the video only took a small sliver of the screen.

Sound quality was surprisingly good, both when watching videos and listening to music. When streaming the bass-heavy R&B tune "Forget Me Nots" Dell KD476 battery from Napster, the sound was clean and loud enough to fill a room.

Touch Experience
The ExoPC slate has a capacitive touchscreen that supports two-fingered gestures. In our tests, we were Dell 1525 Battery able to use pinch-to-zoom and draw two separate lines at the same time in Windows Paint. However, we noticed occasional moments of lag r61 battery where we’d tap a button such as the Start menu and wait several seconds for the system to respond.

Ports and Webcam
For a slate, the ExoPC has a lot of connection options. On its left side are a micro HDMI port, two USB ports, and a microSD card reader. There’s also a SIM card t400 battery slot for connecting to 3G GSM networks and a docking port, though our unit did not come with any accessories and 3G will not come standard t500 battery on the initial units. Unfortunately, you can’t charge or power the device via USB, but must plug in using a proprietary AC t61 battery adapter.

The 1.3-megapixel webcam provided images of acceptable quality, though the picture turned dark and shadowy in areas without a great deal t60 battery of ambient light. When speaking on Skype, our picture was also a bit blurry.

It’s no secret that Windows 7 is not the best operating system for tablets, mainly because of its mouse-centric t60p battery heritage. All the Windows-based tablets we’ve tested suffer from serious usability issues and most have short battery life and high price tags, to boot. r60 battery The ExoPC Slate is not your typical Win 7 tablet. It covers Microsoft’s desktop with an innovative custom interface that includes its own app store. Add in a high-definition 11.6-inch screen, front-facing webcam, and multiple USB ports and you r60e battery have a tablet that truly stands out from the crowd. But does the ExoPC Slate’s uniqueness justify its $599 asking price?

Editor’s Note:When we tested the ExoPC Slate, its important UI Layer was still in beta form and many x60 battery features, such as the app market, were not functional. We’ll update this review, and reserve the right to change the rating, when a final version X60S battery of the ExoPC UI Layer comes out in mid-December.

If you’re going to shell out $399 for a netbook, it has to be special. The Samsung NF310 makes the case for its premium price with a t40 battery futuristic-chic design, a dual-core Atom processor, and a high-resolution display (1366 x 768) for a 10-inch screen. While this mini laptop doesn’t offer the longest good battery life, it’s an excellent choice.

Display and Audio
You don’t typically find a 1366 x 768-pixel display on a netbook,hp battery which makes the Samsung NF310 feel more like a regular laptop when surfing the web, working on documents, and performing other tasks. It just feels less claustrophobic. The 10.1-inch matte display has wide viewing angles, too, plus rich, deep dell battery colors. The lack of gloss means no reflections and some limited sunlight visibility.

The two speakers sitting above the keyboard supplied great audio, especially for a netbook. Thanks to sony battery SRS Premium Sound drivers, we were able to hear the distinct bass line in Superchick’s "One Girl Revolution" and rock out to Metallica’s "apple battery Enter Sandman" on just 50 percent volume. Even when watching The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror, we didn’t have to max out the volume to hear it clearly in a room with low-level background acer battery noise.

Ports and Webcam
Aside from three USB ports, the NF310 also features VGA, Ethernet, headphone and mic connections. hp battery Unfortunately, the 4-in-1 memory card slot still has no spring lock, which means SD cards hang off the side of the netbook. There is one other minor disappointment: Unlike recent N Series netbooks, this model doesn’t come with a chargeable USB port, so users can’t keep a phone or other bus-powered accessory powered while the NF310 is batteries asleep.

So maybe all the effort wasn’t wasted. Yes, the U.S. launch was apparently disappointing Sony VGP-BPS13 battery and even if the European and Asian launches were better, as is claimed, they obviously weren’t good enough to merit continuing the Sony VGP-BPS13A/B Battery product. Existing users will still get support. It can’t be that hard to keep the lines open for less than 200 people, right?

It will be interesting to see what the company brings us in 2011. Perhaps now that they are unencumbered by the dreams and desires Sony VGP-BPS9 Battery of Michael Arrington they can make something that’s all theirs. And if those products flop, there will be no one else to blame. If they fly, Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery then it’ll show they had the chops all along.

In the meantime, there have to be some righteous hacks Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery for the JooJoo floating around out there. If a body were to want to do something cool with the JooJoo just lying around, what would that be

I feel as though I could have told them this even before the iPad came out. Actually, I did. But that’s not the point. The point is that the Sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery JooJoo may still find a place in vertical markets.

“Chandra said transportation companies, hospitals and advertising agencies were interested in a customized sony vgp-bps13/b battery version of the Joojoo. He said Fusion Garage would adapt the Joojoo’s hardware and software for specialized use by these toshiba pa3535u-1brs battery companies. These customized devices would not carry the Joojoo brand

Even though Fusion Garage founder Chandrashekar Rathakrishnan openly stated that the JooJoo tablet is “at its end of life” as far as development studio 17 battery and compatibility with future FG products goes, that doesn’t mean that the tablet is completely dead. In his widely-quoted interview studio 1737 battery with e27, Rathakrishnan admitted that, as a consumer device, it’s not really what people wanted.

I think it’s very obvious with the advance of the iPad studio 1535 battery that while web remains probably the number one thing that we do with our devices, the lack of end-to-end connectivity means that there’s a need to have a hybrid, to have both a web and non-web experience. And that’s where we fell short with our latitude e5500 battery product

Those out of step with Ping can crack open iTunes, select the Ping tab, and click the dialog box latitude e6400 battery that suggests connecting the account with Twitter. Then Ping searches for friends with Twitter accounts. Once finished, you’ll be able to latitude e6500 battery share with tweeps the music you like, review, or purchase via a tweet that will also contain a link to the mentioned content within the iTunes store.

Over on the Twitter side, any updates with Ping information will include playable song previews from any albums shared, which is a latitude e4300 battery pretty sweet service.

Will Ping’s connection to Twitter’s 175 million-strong user base help more iTunes vostro 1510 battery users to get Pinging? Probably. Facebook integration couldn’t hurt either, though

iTunes’ social networking component, Ping, joins up vostro 1310 battery with another social network today, and it’s Twitter.

Since one of the common complaints about the iTunes 10 music-focused social networking service (which launched in September) was inspiron 1545 battery that its social circle was restricted to the Ping cafeteria table, the move to promote alerts and messages in Twitter should be a welcome inspiron 1525 battery dining party to users, both existing and future

The folks over at Engadget have been very busy latitude d630 battery uncovering the juicy details on the Nexus S, the supposed follow-up to the Nexus One. Rumors about this phone have been swirling for some time, as is natural, but today we’ve seen a flurry of activity thanks to Best Buy. Let’s break studio 15 battery it down:

•This morning someone noticed a Best Buy Mobile ad that mentioned the “Nexus S latitude d620 battery for T-Mobile” that boasted “Pure Google”, which some have taken to mean that it’s a vanilla Android experience, much like the T-Mobile G2. The xps m1330 battery ad is no longer running, of course.
•An Engadget tipster then found the image on the right in a web-based flier for Best Buy Mobile. Is that a front-facing camera and inspiron 6400 battery Android 2.3 interface we see?
•Clever Chris Ziegler then utilized the advanced search function on Flickr and Picassa to look inspiron 1501 battery for images taken with a camera with the meta-label Nexus S. He found several, and the photos appear to belong to Google employees or inspiron e1505 battery their families. he further discovered that these same accounts were using a phone called the Samsung GT-i9020 just a few days before, apparently confirming the long-standing rumors that the next Nexus phone (also called the Nexus 2 at times) was being made latitude d820 battery by Samsung.
•Here’s a picture, apparently taken a month ago, of the Samsung phone in question. Google has vostro 1000 battery no comment at the moment, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the new Nexus phone looked exactly like this when it does come Dell gd761 battery out

Design
The NF310 is a bold departure from your traditional netbook. With the charcoal gray lid closed, you can see the outline of a wave along the sides. Once open, the curve creates a shallow well on the silver deck where the keyboard sits. This bump makes the 1.2-inch thick system a little bulky, but the rounded corners and tapered edges latitude d830 battery help give the NF310 an air of sleekness. The chunkier back half and slightly jutting battery make the 2.8-pound netbook comfortable to inspiron 1520 battery carry one-handed.

The lid gives off a metallic impression, but the plastic coating vostro 1500 battery collects smudges easily and leaves it looking messy. We wish Samsung would offer more color options. Underneath the lid, a glossy plastic bezel with a dotted pattern surrounds the display. The pattern is cool, but the bezel is a bit larger than inspiron 1720 battery we’d like.

Heat
Throughout our hands-on time, the NF310 stayed relatively cool, even when sitting on our lap. After playing good battery a Hulu video at full screen for 15 seconds, we measured the temperature between the G and H keys, on the touchpad, and in the center hp battery of the bottom. The keyboard only reached 82 degrees, while the touchpad and bottom measured 81–well within our preferred comfort zone sony battery for laptops.

Keyboard and Touchpad
With the NF310, Samsung went with an island-style keyboard. We found the layout just as easy to use as the other N Series models, dell battery and were able to reach our normal typing speed right away. Most keys are large enough and well-placed. We just wish the space bar were slightly larger, as apple battery we sometimes accidentally hit the left Alt key instead.

The 2.9 x 1.5-inch touchpad is a comfortable size, and we like acer battery that it’s bordered by a strip of metal so our finger knew when it had strayed from the touch surface. There was no friction to hinder us, and the spun-metal look of the pad is a nice battery touch.

Even those who visit Google.com to search may be disappointed to know that you VGP-BPS13 can only see the first search result above the fold. As you can see in the screen shot above, there’s so much space taken up by auto suggestions that VGP-BPS13A/B there’s only enough room for the top entry to appear on the screen, though you can scroll down to see more results. This holds true whether you’re in landscape mode with a physical keyboard out or in portrait mode using the virtual keyboard. In landscape mode VGP-BPS13A/S with virtual keyboard, there’s no room at all for Google instant results.

With the feature enabled, users can type into the search box on the Google home page and VGP-BPS9 watch as the search box moves to the top of the screen and a set of results appears below and updates as they keep typing in the query. As VGP-BPS8 with Google instant on the desktop, you do not need to hit the Search button for results to appear.

Google Instant, the Google feature that shows search results as you type, has come to mobile. Today, the company announced VGP-BPS9A/B that uses of iOS and Android 2.2-powered devices are able to get Google instant simply by pointing their mobile web browsers to Google.com and clicking VGP-BPS9/B on the link which says “Instant (beta) is off: Turn On.”

We tested the new Google Instant for mobile on a VGP-BPS9/S Motorola Droid running Android 2.2 and found that it works as advertised, but isn’t all that convenient, because it only works from within the Google web site. If, like us, you most often enter your search queries directly into the browser’s address bar or into the VGP-BPS8A search box that appears when you hit the magnifying glass button, you won’t see this new feature.

Targeted squarely at the highly mobile, Acer’s new 11.6-inch Aspire TimelineX 1830T-68U118 has a VGP-BPS2 lot of punch for its size. Though a little on the pricey side compared to its tiny netbook cousins, the $899 1830T comes well equipped with a VGP-BPS2A much faster processor than the 11-inch MacBook Air (a 1.4-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and gobs more storage space for $100 less. It also lasts longer on a charge, providing more than 6 hours of runtime. Best of all, you get all this goodness in a trim and attractive business-casual VGP-BPS2B design that will look equally at home in the conference room or the student library. Still, is this svelte performer worth the premium over other 11-inch VGP-BPS2C Windows ultraportables?

Heat
The 1830T was one relatively cool customer on our VGP-BPS21A/B heat tests. After playing a Hulu video for 15 minutes, we measured 85 and 87 degrees at the Aspire’s touchpad and between the G and H keys respectively. That said, we recorded a higher 95-degree temperature at the center of the undercarriage. Still, that didn’t quite trigger VGP-BPS21A our heat alarms, since we consider anything over 100 degrees to be toasty.

Design
Weighing in at a featherweight 3 pounds (the same as its predecessor), this newly refreshed 1830T is also just VGP-BPS21B over an inch thick. That’s beefier than the 11-inch MacBook Air (.11 to .68 inches), but it’s a breeze to slip this machine into a bag and tote around town. The 1830T vgp-bps21a shares other design accoutrements with its forerunner. You’ll find a similar fingerprint-resistant black cover featuring a texturized surface, making for a better grip by damp hands between tense meetings and lectures.

Flipping open the 1830T reveals its glossy black vgp-bps21b battery bezel, which is unfortunately prone to prints, and its matte black keyboard set in brushed gun-metal gray aluminum. Though it boasts a sizeable six-cell battery, the power source doesn’t protrude behind the laptop and won’t prove to be a hindrance or snag vgp-bps21 stray cords.

The Aspire’s 1.3-megapixel webcam is standard fare. Colors looked a bit washed out but pa3535u-1brs battery video performance was adequate. The bundled Acer Crystal Eye software does allow you to change the resolution, shoot video, snap dell studio 17 battery quick pics, and alter various video processing vectors such as contrast, gamma, and hue.

Ports and Webcam
On the left side of the 1830T you’ll find a VGA port, power connector, and USB port. As with the previous model we reviewed, vgp-bps13/b there is an HDMI v1.3 port here as well. With it you’ll be able to output HD video to your HDTV. On the right side are headphone and mic jacks,VGP-BPS13 two additional USB ports, plus a Kensington lock slot and Ethernet. To activate Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a keyboard shortcut is provided (no VGP-BPS13A/B physical switches are offered).

Keyboard and Touchpad

Almost identical to the previous 1830T, this refresh sports the same flat square-style keys crafted with a deliberately rough VGP-BPS9 surface for additional texture. Even so, this does not make up for the somewhat shallow key travel and mushy feel when typing. Also,VGP-BPS10 the keyboard layout, while close to full-size and an accomplishment for a laptop of this small stature, feels a bit cramped. Still, both left and right shift keys are large enough and you can use the 1830T pound out larger hp battery documents when necessary.

The touchpad is on the petite side at 2.5 x 1.3 inches. sony battery Compounding the problem of tiny input area, the pad appears virtually invisible against the brushed-metal styling of the wrist rest. Fingers also don’t slide well against its textured surface. This resulted in a number of uncertain swipes and scrolling errors on good battery our part. Even so, the touchpad supports multi-gesture pinch and zoom motions, which comes in especially handy apple battery when web surfing.

As expected, today Barnes and Noble officially introduced the Nook Color, a 7-inch Toshiba PA3534U-1BRS Battery Android-based tablet that offers a full-color touch screen, Wi-Fi connectivity, and some slick social network interactivity. toshiba pa3535u-1brs battery It looks just like the leaked picture we saw yesterday, with the 16:9 aspect ratio (similar to the Galaxy Tab) and just one physical button. It runs on Android 2.0, but, just as with the original Nook, B&N designed the UI seemingly top to bottom Sony VGP-BPS13 battery to offer a specific experience.

First, the hardware: At just 8.1 x 5.0 x 0.48 inches in size and 15.8 ounces it’s definitely thin Sony VGP-BPS13A/B Battery and light (though slightly larger and heavier than the original Nook). The 4010 mAh battery is rated to last up to 8 hours; no word yet on Sony VGP-BPS9 Battery how long a standby time it has. The 7-inch, capacitive touch LCD display has a resolution of 1024 x 600 and technology that keeps glare down and offers wide viewing angles. It’ll ship with 8GB of on-board memory and has a Sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery microSD expansion slot.

From the short demo we just saw the Android 2.0-based user interface looks very well-designed Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery and easy to use. There’s no word yet on the chip running the Nook Color, but our experience with Android and LCD-based eReaders tells us Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery that the hardware needs to be speedy just as the software needs to be intuitive.

Unlike the original Nook, the Nook Color doesn’t come with 3G, only Wi-Fi (b/g/n). Barnes & Noble’s CEO indicated that this was to keep Dell inspiron 1545 battery the price down. Presumably not only because adding a 3G radio would have added to the cost, but also because wireless carriers are less dell latitude e6400 battery likely to allow a tablet-like device to have unlimited connectivity without a monthly fee.

Though the company stressed several times that the focus of this device dell studio 17 battery will be reading, the Nook Color also comes with apps. Aside from the browser there’s also a media player (audio and video), Pandora, and games like Sudoku and chess. Nook has also opened a developer program to encourage app creators dell studio 1737 battery to make Nook-compatible software. Upcoming apps include Lonely Planet, Dictionary.com, and QuickOffice. Plus, users will be able to publish quotes dell studio 1535 battery from the books they’re reading to social networks like Twitter and Facebook right from the page (similar dell latitude e5500 battery to the latest Kindle).

On the document front, users will now be able to read more than just PDFs. They’ll be able to view MS Office documents dell latitude e6400 battery (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and, when the QuickOffice app is ready, hopefully edit, too. This functionality is what may sway customers looking dell latitude e6500 battery for a tablet. If the Nook Color can serve as eReader and document editor and quick web browser, they may not need any of the dell latitude e4300 battery other thousands of apps in the Android Market. It’s no surprise that the Nook Color won’t be able to access the Market, though with the new Nook Developer program, Barnes & Noble is hoping to encourage programmers to create apps dell vostro 1510 battery that fit in with the eReading theme. (Please, someone make a notes app, quick!)

The bookseller also showed off some of the enhancements in eBooks and ePeriodicals that will go dell vostro 1310 battery with this new Nook. Nook Kids will feature full-color picture and chapter books, hundreds of which will have some interactive Dell inspiron 1545 battery elements built in. These will range from elements on the page your child can move via touch, or just small animations — in one book we saw birds flying past a window, in another the character blinked occasionally. Kids can also tap a button to hear a “professional Dell inspiron 1525 battery narrator” read the book to them. Will parents be comfortable handing over the Nook Color to young kids? I’m not sure I would. Then Dell latitude d630 battery again, I see people handing over their iPhones and iPads to kids all the time, so perhaps this will be no different.

Aside from the music element, another nice multimedia Dell studio 15 battery feature is the ability to play video. Users can load their own MP4s on the device, or watch embedded videos in special enhanced eBooks. The eReader can’t handle Flash yet, but it’s not out of the question for future Dell latitude d620 battery updates.

Customers can pre-order the Nook Color today for $249 and it will ship around Dell xps m1330 battery November 19. Though if it proves as popular as the original Nook, those who don’t jump on the bandwagon early may have a long wait for this eReader. Dell inspiron 6400 battery We’ll have a hands-on video up soon to walk you through this sweet new device.

We were able to grab some short hands-on time with the newly-announced Sony VGP-BPS9 Battery Nook Color at today’s event and we came away impressed, overall.

The software — though not final — has a slick, Sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery well thought out UI and the 7-inch capacitive touch screen offers some beautiful colors. Unlike the slew of Android-based, LCD display eReaders we’ve seen over the past year, the Nook Color hits all the right notes. The display is, as I mentioned, Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery capacitive instead of resistive and quite responsive to touch. We noted a few times where it wasn’t quite behaving, but B&N reps Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery pointed out that the units we saw were not final.

We don’t know which chip is driving the device, Sony VGP-BPS13 battery though it seems well up to handling Android 2.0, which is what the UI is built on. At just under a pound, it feels sturdy and solid, and the build quality looks good. At a glance, it’s one of the best entrants into the LCD eReader category we’ve seen Sony VGP-BPS13A/B Battery so far

The Wi-Fi Alliance just announced that soon many of our wi-fi connected devices will be able to sony vgp-bps13/b battery bypass the router and connect directly to each other via Wi-Fi Direct. This new protocol tweaks the software of Wi-Fi chips to toshiba pa3535u-1brs battery allow, say your camera to send images to your phone using Wi-Fi, but with nary a router in site.

In practice, it’ll work similarly to Bluetooth pairing; you enter a code or push a button to initially activate the connection. The idea is Toshiba PA3534U-1BRS Battery that this technology will also make wireless printing easier, whether you’re at home or at a photo printing kiosk. The Wi-Fi Alliance dell studio 17 battery promises that Wi-Fi Direct will maintain current wireless speeds and be secure with WPA2 encryption. New Wi-Fi Direct dell studio 1737 battery products will also work with older products that have traditional wireless capabilities, which means you won’t have to overhaul your gadget collection just yet. You can expect to see Wi-Fi Direct appearing in products this holiday dell studio 1535 battery season

Privacy is dead. Between Facebook’s security flaws and more companies dell latitude e5500 battery practicing data scrapping, there can be no doubt. But just in case you weren’t convinced, the Firesheep add-on for Firefox makes it dell latitude e6400 battery even more apparent by letting everyone in on seeing each other’s internet identity.
Firesheep is a Firefox extension created by Eric Butler for the sole purpose of showing the world how little security there dell latitude e6500 battery is on the internet. The problem that Butler wants to point out is that most popular sites (such as Facebook, Flickr, Amazon.com, Dropbox, dell latitude e4300 battery Evernote, and more) only secure the front end of their websites.

There’s one easy way to sum up the new 11-inch MacBook Air: It’s always ready Sony VGP-BPS13 Battery to go. Not only does this notebook weigh a mere 2.3 pounds and boast a razor-thin profile, its use of flash memory means you’ll never have Sony VGP-BPS13A/B Battery to wait to start surfing the web, touching up photos, or making FaceTime calls. Starting at $999 ($1,199 as configured), the 11-inch Air features a Core 2 Duo processor, Nvidia graphics, and more than 5 hours of battery life. That’s pretty remarkable for something Sony VGP-BPS13A/S Battery you barely notice is in your bag. Still, some cheaper Windows-powered ultraportables combine better CPU performance Sony VGP-BPS9 Battery with longer endurance. Is this MacBook mini worth it?

Design
Apple has applied its expertise in miniaturization to achieve a Sony VGP-BPS8 Battery design that’s unconsciously portable yet super sturdy. The 11-inch Air’s 2.3-pound weight is more than a full pound lighter than the 12-inch Asus Eee PC 1215N (3.4 pounds), and easier to tote than the Acer Aspire 1830t (3 pounds). Even Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery 10-inch netbooks such as the Toshiba NB305 (2.8 pounds) feel bulky by comparison. Part of the reason why the MacBook Air is so much lighter is Sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery that Apple put flash memory chips right on the logic board without using the typical storage enclosure.

Thanks to the 11-inch Air’s unibody aluminum housing, this machine Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery feels a lot more durable than its plastic competition. It’s also very, very thin. The wedge-shaped profile measures from 0.11 to 0.68 inches yet manages to include two USB ports (one on each side), a headphone jack on the left, and a Sony VGP-BPS8A Battery mini DisplayPort on the right. The only thing missing is an SD Card slot, a feature available on the new 13-inch MacBook Air. This is a Sony VGP-BPS2 Battery disappointing omission, especially since 10-inch netbooks have had this slot for years. Apple simply ran out of room.

Our biggest issue with the design is that the lid on this Air Sony VGP-BPS2A Battery sometimes tilted backwards when we picked the machine up. This also happened when in a moving vehicle, especially when we hit bumps in the road or if the vehiicle slowed down somewhat abruptly. The display hinge is designed so that it doesn’t Sony VGP-BPS2B Battery tilt all the way back, but we still found this movement annoying.

Keyboard and Touchpad
A good ultraportable keyboard will make you forget that you’re using a smaller notebook, and the 11-inch Sony VGP-BPS2C Battery MacBook Air passes that test with flying colors. We typed this review, URLs, and other notes rapidly on the chiclet-style layout Sony VGP-BPS13A/Q Battery while enjoying crisp feedback. As per usual with Macs, the layout includes dedicated keys for adjusting the volume and brightness, playback controls, and both Expose and Dashboard. You’ll also find a power button in the upper right corner. The Sony VGP-BPS13/B Battery arrow keys are a bit small, but we had no trouble using them. The only bummer is that the keys aren’t backlit; that’s the price you pay Sony VGP-BPS13B/B Battery for such a slim profile.

Apple leverages its extra-large glass touchpad to full effect on the Sony VGP-BPS13B/Q Battery 11-inch MacBook Air, which provides pinpoint accuracy and a smooth navigation experience. It also integrates well with Mac OS X Snow Leopard, allowing users to execute all sorts of multitouch gestures. Pinch-to-zoom worked well Sony VGP-BPS13/Q Battery in iPhoto and Safari, and it was a cinch to minimize all open apps with a four-finger swipe downward. A three-finger swipe let us zip through Sony VGP-BPS9/B Battery pictures in iPhoto. Overall, this ultraportable offers a stellar ergonomic experience.

Display and Audio
At first we thought the somewhat thick bezel around the screen Sony VGP-BPS9/S Battery would prove distracting–until we turned the 11-inch MacBook Air on. You won’t find a brighter, crisper, or more colorful display on an notebook this class. Photo and video editors will find this 1366 x 768 panel easy on the eyes. Websites looked good Sony VGP-BPS9A/B Battery as well. The Air’s wide viewing angles allow you to share slideshows and videos with a couple of people.

The 11-inch MacBook Air may be thin, but the sound is anything but. Two stereo speakers project audio Sony VGP-BPS13 battery right through the top of the keyboard, pumping out surprisingly loud sound. When we cranked up the volume of a track by The vgp-bps21 Kooks on Pandora, we managed to annoy a few people while sitting in a hotel lobby. The audio wasn’t tinny either, which means you won’t necessarily have to don headphones to edit sound in iMovie and vgp-bps21a GarageBand.

FaceTime Camera

Thanks to a new FaceTime desktop beta application, MacBook owners can make video calls to other Mac dell akku owners, as well as to those who have an iPhone 4 and the latest iPod touch. The setup process was a bit of a pain, requiring us to create an sony akku account and verify our e-mail address online before proceeding. After that, though, we just gave a friend the e-mail address we used to sign up and he called us from his iPhone 4. While the video window was small, the quality was better than we expected, with warm hp akku colors and pretty good detail. We also found it neat that our video window automatically reoriented itself when the other caller turned his iPhone to landscape good battery mode. Of course, the built-in webcam can also be used for other chat apps and to record clips using iMovie.
